No crude at Ghana’s TOR, main plant shut down for 15 days – Report

Ghana has shut down the main crude distillation unit of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) after the state-owned refiner run out of crude oil since April 11, 2012, the Reuters news agency reported today April 26, 2012 citing sources at the outfit.

“The plant is down because we do not have crude to process – the last activity at the plant was on April 11 at 1630 GMT,” Reuters quoted an unnamed source at the plant’s labour union as saying.

TOR refines 45,000 barrels of oil a day mainly supplied from Nigeria.

Already media reports suggest that the Ghanaian capital, Accra has been experiencing some fuel shortages at filling stations.

Meanwhile, ghanabusinessnews.com checks today April 26, 2012 showed that some filling stations at Laterbiokorshie are still selling fuel.

Phone calls to officials of the TOR were not responded to.
