Ghana beats Tunisia 2-1 in extra time to qualify for semi-finals of AFCON 2012

Ghana braved a brawling match with an irate and intemperate 10-man Tunisian team to win 2-1 in extra time to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament in Franceville.

Ghana took the lead 10 minutes into the first half through a Capt. John Mensah header

The Black Stars were in control of the game till the dying minutes of the second half when a sloppy defence allowed Saber Khlifa to score to equalize for the Tunisians on the nick of half-time.

The second half however, didn’t produce a good game as the Tunisians resorted to rough play. They hit, elbowed, stamped on the Stars. The match went into extra time and Tunisian player, Aymen Abdennour was sent off with 12 minutes left in extra time.

In the 101st minute Dede Ayew took advantage of  a goal-keeping error by  Aymen Mathlouthi when he dropped the ball into his path to make it 2-1 for Ghana.

The streets of Accra erupted into jubilation at the final whistle of the tension filled match.

Ghana will meet Zambia in the semi-finals.
