Ghana fails to make World Cup history after heroic performance

Ghana had an opportunity to make history at the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa, but failed to take it despite a heroic performance against Uruguay in the quarter-finals. The Black Stars lost 4-2 on penalties.

The Black Stars took the lead in the dying minutes of the first half from a Sulley Muntari 30-yard kick. The Uruguans equalized through a free-kick from captain Diego Forlana in the second half.  The game ended 1-1 in full-time and had to go into extra-time.

After the extra time there was still no clear winner until the final minutes of the game when Uruguay player Luis Suarez stopped a goal bound header with his hand. He got a red card and Ghana was given a penalty. But striker Asamoah Gyan wasted the opportunity when his kick hit the cross bar pushing the game into penalties.

With this loss came crashing Africa’s hope for a shine at the ongoing competition which is taking place on the continent for the first time.

typically the team lacked the mental strength to take her destiny into her own hands. that is what differentiates Uruguay from Ghana. it does not take just prayer. Africa wake up being religious is not the trick. taking your opportunities well is important.
