African airlines to spend $112b on aircraft by 2028

plane-takes-offAfrican air passenger numbers are expected to increase leading to a need for 959 larger aircraft by the continent’s airline companies, the Bloomberg news service has reported quoting an official of Airbus SAS, one of the world’s leading aircraft builders.

Andrew Gordon, director of market analysis of Airbus SAS said air passenger numbers on the continent will grow by an average of 5.6% a year over the period, or one per cent faster than the global average.

“The market to, from, and within Africa is really growing very, very rapidly,” Gordon said. Airbus’s share of the market for large jets in Africa is 21 percent, compared with its global average of 59 percent, he said.
