Brazil invests $6b in biofuels in Mozambique
Africa is increasingly becoming attractive to investors in alternative energy sources, especially biofuels.
One of the numerous African countries including Ghana to sign deals with Brazil, a global biofuels industry leader for the cultivation of sugar cane for the production of ethanol is Mozambique.
The Bloomberg news reports that Mozambique has signed two agreements with Brazil for a $6 billion biofuel exploration.
The Bloomberg quoting an independent Mozambican daily O Pais says some of the biofuel to be produced will be exported to Brazil.
Meanwhile, about $256 million has been invested in the biofuels sector in Mozambique.
Several European and US companies, including Brazil and some Asian countries are investing in Ghana to cultivate sugar cane and especially Jatropha, the non-food crop for the production of biofuels.
Despite the growing interest in the biofuels sector in Ghana however, the country does not have a biofuels policy.
