Ghana wins oil deal from Nigeria
Ghana has won a deal to import more oil from Nigeria on soft credit terms, according to the President’s spokesman.
Nigeria will increase its current export of crude oil to Ghana from the current 45,000 barrels a day to 65,000 to help Ghana go through the effects of the global economic crisis.
As part of the deal Nigeria will also extend credit from the current 30 days to 90 days, Mr. Mahama Ayariga has said. He also said 45,000 barrels of the oil will be delivered to the country’s oil refinery, the Tema Oil Refinery and the rest will go to the country’s major electrity generator, the Volta River Authoriy.
The deal was secured by President John Evans Atta Mills in talks with President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in Abuja.
President Mills who is on a visit to the Nigerian capital, will return to Ghana Tuesday June 23.
