Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday pipped their archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium in the ongoing Glo Premier League.
The goal which came from the foot of the Porcupine Warrior’s Francis Coffie netted 75 minutes into the game.
Hearts missed a hatful of chances with the first half seeing a goal the referee ruled out for an offside.
The win pumped utmost satisfaction into supporters of Kotoko, the defending champions, as they punched the air and waved red flags in jubilation.
An equalizer for Hearts reared its head in 92 minutes but Kobina Yaro’s crossing was poorly managed by Alex Asamoah.
Hearts of Oak’s Charles Taylor reinforced the conviction of the losing side with a quick try at goal, employing a header, but that was not strong enough.
The scoreline marks the end of a 16-year struggle by the Porcupine Warriors to beat the hosts.
