The government of Thailand is to establish a large-scale rice milling plant in Ghana to boost the production and consumption of local rice in the country.
It also has plans to set up a fertiliser plant in Nigeria to cater for the fertilizer needs of the sub-region.
This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr Suwit Khunkitti, when he led a business delegation of the Stallion Group to call on President J.E.A. Mills at the Castle, Osu in Accra.
Members of the delegation, who included the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stallion Group, Mr Sunil Vaswani, and the top management of Asia Golden Rice, (the largest producers and exporters of rice in the world), were at the Castle to congratulate the President on his election and also inform him about the joint venture between Stallion Group and Asia Golden Rice.
Mr Khunkitti assured the President that the group was committed to undertaking rice farming in the country with technological inputs from Thailand.
President Mills expressed delight at the joint venture, since, according to him, agriculture was one of the top priorities of his government.
